Hi!
My name is Jevgeni. Born and raised in a Russian-speaking family in Tallinn, Estonia, I have been traveling most of my adult life, making friends around the world. My parents were confident enough to let me travel abroad alone as early as at 16 years old (as long as I earned the trip money myself), which I’m very grateful for as it helped broaden my horizons early on.
Curious since the early childhood about the world out there and very different values that other cultures have, I realised that spending my 20s living in Estonia would be a waste. That is why since 2022 I have been based out of Berlin, Germany. Having been on a student exchange in the city 10 years prior, it was a natural choice thanks to its diversity and history.
I’ve been a corporate weapon for about 10 years now. There have been many fields I’ve worked in, ranging from telecom to logistics to fintech. Throughout this time I have enjoyed working every single one of them, however there still is one major downside to each.
One thing about working a corporate job is that it inevitably kills you inside. You are expected to be a yes-man and get involved in often meaningless office politics, even if all you want to do is make sure that your scope of responsibility is running like clockwork. I’m not even 30 yet, but I know this is something I have to escape, hopefully sooner than later.
While I take work-life balance seriously by having strict boundaries on my work time in order to enjoy life outside of it, I do acknowledge that work takes one-third of one’s working day, meaning it is a significant part of my life. This is why I choose to treat work as such, refusing to pretend to be someone I’m not.
The reason for starting this blog is that, as my close friends will know, I have an opinion on many things. For better or worse, I believe it’s important to voice said opinions, even if not necessarily I can support them with certain actions. Hopefully the transition away from the corporate life will help me act on some of these thoughts in the future.
Additionally, a lot happens in my life. No month is like the other, so there are some stories to tell. Because of that I do feel that neither LinkedIn nor any of Meta’s services provide the platform to share your thoughts with enough depth and nuance. I’ve tried with Instagram – it just doesn’t work, so back to old-school blogging we are.
Thank you for sticking around and I hope you enjoy reading this blog 🙏🏻
